For the past (2) years, Past President/Historian Julio C. Martinez, has been putting together the Historical Data Base of Region No. 2 New York City. This so far has been done by reading old newsletters, old communications and facts from old timers and former officers. Please read the facts contained here in. If you have anything to add, please with your information.

INTERNATIONAL POLICE ASSOCIATION

1962 COMMEMORATIVE COIN

This coin was produced by the United States Section of the International Police Association in 1962, in commemoration of it's admission into the I.P.A. This coin is the size of an old U.S. Silver Dollar with a weight of 1.57 Troy Oz. and it is made of Sterling Silver. Although not confirmed, this coin may have been produced by the Franklin Mint in Philadelphia. This coin is very rare to the membership and collector today. The only ones confirmed in existence today are in the possession of Past National President Jerry Avellino, Past Region No. 2 New York City President Edward Lentol and Past Region No. 2 New York City President Julio C. Martinez.

I.P.A. REGION NO. 2 NEW YORK CITY COIN
RELEASED FEBRUARY 6, 2002

The New York City Region of the International Police Association released it's first ever coin on February 6, 2002. The United States Section of the International Police Association has only produced (3) coins since it was chartered in the United States in 1962. The 1st coin was produced in 1962 by the Franklin Mint. It was Proof Sterling Silver with the old logo of the IPA on the front side and the map of the United States on the reverse side. The 2nd coin was produced by Region No. 57 in 2000 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the I.P.A.. The 3rd coin was produced by New York City Region No. 2 as shown on top.

The coin/medallion shows the logo of the International Police Association on the front side with the words "New York City" over the top. The bottom has the words "Chartered May 17, 1965". The IPA Logo is in full color and with the official background color of the I.P.A.. The reverse has the logo of the New York City Police Department in full color with the (5) stars indicative of the (5) boroughs of the City of New York.

The coin is about the size of a U.S. Half Dollar. Each of the coins are serial numbered No. 1 through 502. The coins are fully enameled on each side and chromed coated on the edges and areas not colored. A certificate of authenticity is available for you on the Archives Page for you to download. This page will also have the database of each of the owners who purchased the coins. The ownership database will be up-dated to reflect any changes in ownership, if reported to the NYC Region. This database will be a permanent display on the Archives Page.

May 29, 2011 Past President NYC Region No. 2 recently traveled to Manchester, England to attend the festivities in connection with the 50th Birthday Party of Detective Sergeant Vincent Maitland of the Greater Manchester Police. May 30 2011 On May 30, 2011, Brother Julio Martinez, Member of Aurora Grata Day Star Lodge, 3rd Kings District, Brooklyn, New York, visited unofficially with Right Worshipful Eddie Melvin, Member of Harmony Lodge No. 298, Rochdale, England where he is currently the Chaplain and Past Provincial Grand Standard Bearer of the East Lancashire Province. We exchanged greetings and chatted for a couple of hours at his home in Rochdale England. This visit marked the 22nd anniversary of their original meet, during an official IPA visit to New York City in May 1989. Brother Eddie is a retired Police Constable with the Greater Manchester Police in the United Kingdom. Best Wishes to Eddie and his lovely wife Margaret. Margaret is also a member of the equivalent to the Eastern Stars in the United States.
August 2011 Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, Hawaii Past 1st Vice President Region 2 New York City Edward A. Kassof (Sgt-NYPD) recently visited the USS Arizona National Monument at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii. Pictured with Ed is his wife Doris. They both reside in San Antonio, Texas.
